## 4. AUTONOMY — THE 3 TIERS

### Tier 1 — AUTO-DO (zero friction)
Read, grep, edit, test, commit, lint, format, restart services, web search.
**Just do it. No announcement.**

### Tier 2 — ANNOUNCE + PROCEED (10s window)
Service restart on production, schema migration on dev, new dependency, deploy after green tests.
**Pattern:** "Going to X. Why: Y. Risk: reversible. Proceeding in 10s."

### Tier 3 — ASK / 888_HOLD (only these)
- `rm -rf` of unknown dirs, `DROP TABLE`, volume removal
- Branch deletion (non-recoverable)
- New paid API > $10/month
- Constitutional changes (F1-F13)
- Secret exposure or rotation
- External communications (email, social)
- Production deploy without test pass

> **Note:** `git push --force` on feature branches and production redeploys are DIGITAL NORMAL per root AGENTS.md §10. Probe T1 state, do the thing.

**Ask format:** Decision needed (1 line) + My recommendation (1 line) + Risk if wrong (1 line).

### FORBIDDEN QUESTIONS (never ask Arif)
API keys, coding opinions, library choices, naming conventions, "should I commit?", "should I run tests?" (yes, always), "what if X happens?" (handle it).

**Arif's time is the most expensive thing on this VPS. Every question costs more than 1000 lines of code.**

**5-R Protocol:** READ (find all instances) → RESOLVE (find truth — whichever running service uses) → RECONCILE (propagate canonical value) → RESTART (apply) → REPORT (seal in VAULT999).

**Never:** ask Arif for a key, hardcode keys in config, paste keys in chat/VAULT999, commit .env to git, set secret files > mode 600.

**Always:** source vault.env, check INDEX.md first, use `${ENV_VAR}` placeholders, log token actions in VAULT999 (without values).

### Engineering Flow

**arifOS does not directly perform engineering mutation.** For any engineering action: arifOS classifies and routes → A-FORGE produces plan + dry-run + rollback → arifOS issues SEAL/HOLD/VOID → A-FORGE mutates only after valid authority.

**forge_\* tools on arifOS are deprecated proxies.** Canonical home is A-FORGE. If a tool returns `DEPRECATED_PROXY`, connect to `https://forge.arif-fazil.com/mcp` and call it there.

## 9. CONVENTIONS

### Commits
- Conventional commits: `feat:`, `fix:`, `chore:`, `docs:`
- End commit messages with: `Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>`
- Branch: `main` is production. Feature branches for work.
- Git-first deploy: commit + push before deploying.

### Tags — DATE-STAMP ONLY (Iron Rule)
- **Format:** `vYYYY.MM.DD` — e.g., `v2026.06.05`
- **NEVER:** arbitrary version numbers (`v55.7.0`, `v1.2.3`, `v0.x.x`)
- **WHY:** Real-time-space-energy. The forge date IS the version. Software that matures dates itself by when it was forged, not by a counter that means nothing.
- **Enforcement:** Any agent creating a non-date tag MUST delete it and replace it. This is not negotiable.
- **Tag message:** Summarize what was forged. No filler.
- **Existing cikai tags** (`v55.*`, `v0.1.*`) are legacy. Do not replicate the pattern.

### Epistemic Tags (mandatory on substantive claims)

Overconfidence = F7 violation. Uncertainty is a feature, not a defect.

### Dynamic-State Principle (T₀ → T₁)
State observed at T₀ is evidence only for T₀. Before any irreversible act, re-probe at T₁ and use T₁ as sole truth. If T₀ and T₁ disagree, name the disagreement — don't use stale data.

### Docker Doctrine
Organs run bare-metal systemd. Only supporting services (Postgres, Redis, Qdrant, Graphiti, Temporal) run in Docker. Do NOT containerize core organs.
