PUTERI BASEMENT-1 was reportedly the first test of fractured granite in the Malay Basin. Public geological literature confirms it did not find hydrocarbons — lack of effective source rock charge and poor top seal being the cited reasons. That is a completely credible outcome for a frontier basement test.

Testing an untested play type — fractured granite basement — in a basin where no one had previously done so is a disciplined scientific experiment.
